A $2,500 Advocate vs. $199.99/Month: What You're Actually Paying For
Team VillageED — July 14, 2026
For Parents · Assessments & IEP
A private advocate can cost thousands. VillageED gives you the same IEP advocacy, virtually, for $199.99 a month — here's exactly what you're getting.
If your child’s IEP needs a closer look, you don’t have to hire someone new and start from scratch. VillageED’s own team provides virtual IEP advocacy as part of your plan — the same kind of support a private advocate offers, without a separate search, a separate invoice, or a new person learning your child’s story from zero. Here’s how the cost compares:
| Private Advocate | VillageED | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | $75–$300 per hour | $199.99 a month (or $179.99/mo billed quarterly) |
| Typical total for one case | $500–$2,500 | Included every month, ongoing |
| Billing | New invoice for each visit or case | One flat monthly cost |
What an advocate looks for first
- Present levels that don't match the goals. This section tells where your child is right now. It should line up with the goals. If it doesn't match, that's a problem.
- Accommodations that don't match the test results. If testing showed your child needs extra time, or help writing, but that's missing from the plan, that's worth asking about.
- Services that aren't really happening. If the plan says speech therapy, 30 minutes, twice a week, check if that's true. Don't just trust the paper.
- Goals with no numbers in them. "Will get better at reading" is not a real goal. A real goal has a starting point, a target, and a way to measure it.
- Missing parent rights. You should get a paper explaining your rights at every meeting. If you don't, ask for it.
A $2,500 advocate would not be surprised by what's in your IEP. They would already know just where to look for what's missing.
Why the monthly plan is a better fit
A private advocate is there for one case, then the relationship ends until something else comes up — and you start paying again from scratch. A VillageED plan doesn’t reset. The same team that reviews your child’s IEP today is still there next semester, next year, and the year after that, without a new invoice restarting the clock every time.
Worth remembering
- An outside advocate can still be the right choice for a hard case. This isn't about saying no to that. It's about not paying full price just to find out if you need one.
- Families who catch problems early aren't lucky. They just looked sooner instead of later.
How VillageED can help
You should not have to choose between real help and staying on budget. Our licensed, trained special education team gives you both:
- Full IEP help and advocacy — the same work a private advocate would do, built into your plan
- Ongoing care for your child's IEP, not a one-time visit that ends once the bill is paid
- One flat monthly cost, instead of a new bill every time you need to talk to someone
